Lake Balaton

The "City of Queens" is among the oldest ones in Hungary with rich history, Baroque architecture, historical monuments, sculptures, galleries and a well-preserved Castle district. The main attractions include the castle, the Heroes' Gate, the Fire Tower, the Archbishop's Palace, the Margaret Ruins, the Zoo and the Valley Bridge. Don't miss the street music, summer and cultural festivals. 

The volcanic Tihany peninsula is a historical district, covered by limestone geysers. The village is really lovely with its thousand-year-old Benedict Abbey Church, lavender gardens, Inner and Outer lakes and the breathtaking panorama. Don't miss the famous echo of Tihany at Echo Hill, the Lavender House, the Barátlakások, the Doll Museum, and the Open-Air Museum.

The basalt plateau of Badacsony Mountain is the most iconic sight of the region. Walk around in the lovely village of Badacsonytomaj, visit the Róza Szegedy House, sit with your love on the legendary Rose Rock, climb the steep steps to the Kisfaludy Lookout Tower and the Stone Gate, then take a wine tasting tour at a famous domain or one of the many roadside bars and wine cellars. 

Located northwest corner of the lake, the city of Keszthely is a lovely and quite relaxed destination. Enjoy the beaches, the pretty parks, charming cafes and a handful of museums and historical buildings, including the

Baroque Festetics Palace, Balaton Museum, Botanical Garden, the Erotic Panoptikum and museums for hunting, model railways, dolls, toys or even coaches. 

The resort town of Fonyód lays on the southern shore of Lake Balaton. Relax on the beaches - there's one even for your dog! - or enjoy the scenic views of the lake and the Badacsony from one of the lookouts or the Panorama Promenade. For some culture, see the Fonyód Museum, the Kripta Villa, the Plank Castle from the Ottoman era or the Neo-Romanesque Catholic Church.
